Some time ago we talked about Google Analytics and why it is vitally important that you implement it if you have a website, virtual store or blog (if you want to read this article again, you can do so Click here).
This time, we want to teach you how to integrate Google Analytics into your website so that you can start obtaining and monitoring the most relevant data from your website and make the right decisions to improve it.
Get your Google Analytics ID and code
Step 1
The first step is to create your Google Analytics account. As it is a Google product, you just need to use your Gmail account (stop it if necessary) or create a new one.
Then go to the Google Analytics site and click on sign in to Google Analytics.
This will take us to another window where it explains the general idea of Google Analytics in 3 steps. At the end there is a box that says register, that is where we will click.
Step 2
Fill out the form with the requested information (since several sites can be registered to generate tracking codes), accept Google's terms and conditions and click on "Get tracking ID."
Once the process is finished, you will be taken to a window where you will be told (1) your tracking ID (2) the state and (3) the tracking code to insert on your website.
Adding the tracking code to your website
You can add this code manually or through a plugin, using one or the other depends on whether you have knowledge of HTML or code in general. We want to show you both ways so you can choose which one you want to use.
Inserting the code manually in WordPress
Step 1
Log in to your site's WordPress admin and go to the Appearance>Editor menu
Step 2
When you enter the window on the right side look for the file “Theme Header (header.php)”.
Inside the code look for the tag <head>, create a space within said tag and paste the tracking code that was provided to you previously, when finished click update and the code will continue working.
Inserting the code using a plugin in WordPress
If you don't know how to code, or you want to make the process easier, you can use a plugin to do the work for you. Keep in mind that the more plugins you have, the more likely they are to affect loading times or cause incompatibilities between them.
