Spam, junk mail, junk email… no company wants their emails to end up in that folder, since it basically doesn’t exist for the person you’re sending your emails to, and all your effort creating quality content will be in vain since your subscribers or interested people won’t see it.
Being flagged as spam is one of the most common concerns for businesses, and it seems like a perfect crime because once you've been flagged, it's a nearly impossible task to guess what elements are causing your emails to be considered spam.
Don't worry! At Gulupa Digital we want to give you some tips to avoid your emails being marked as spam:
Why is an email classified as spam?
Well, this is because Internet Service Providers (IPPs) analyze user interaction with the emails they receive, in order to provide the best experience for their users. If a person does not open the emails, deletes them or directly marks them as spam, the IPS will prevent your emails from reaching that user's home folder.
Review the content you send
When a person subscribes to a newsletter, they do so thinking that they will receive the information that was promised when they filled out the form. If they start receiving information that is different from what they thought they were going to receive, they will lose interest, stop opening your emails and, in the worst case, they will mark you as spam.
If it is an informative email, requests, etc., write the content in a personalized way, avoid using generic terms, identify yourself in the “From” field as a person and that you work for the company.
You can also include a personalized signature, where you include information such as your name, company name (and logo), position, contact numbers, email, company address and website address, in order to inspire greater confidence in the people who receive the email and decide to open it.
Use an email address with your own domain
It's different if you receive an email, for example, from support@hotmail.com that if you receive it from support@gulupadigital.com. IPS are very suspicious of marketing emails sent through free providers, which is why they mark this type of email address as spam. We help you create corporate email accounts with any of our custom web design plans or of creation of virtual stores.
Be careful what you put in the subject
The subject is very important because it is where you express the reason for the email, you should avoid at all costs:
- The use of exclamation points, as these are a big red flag for IPS.
- Excessive use of capital letters, use them correctly.
- Avoid using spam-related words such as “Free” “Money” “Get money”; when talking about money, avoid placing currency signs such as “$”.
- Try to be concise, do not overload this section with text.
Have a balance between the use of images and text
Using too many images is a red flag for IPS, and most of them block the display of images. Try to keep the main message in the text and the images more supportive. If you decide to put text in the image, try to make it legible and without too many alterations.
Check your contact list
We know it's hard to grow your contact list, but in these cases it's better to have quality than quantity. Check that the emails exist and are copied correctly. If an email bounces, check that it is copied correctly. If it persists, it's best to delete it. If you also have inactive emails on your list, it's best to delete them. And remember, never but NEVER Buying email lists can cause legal problems and affect your deliverability.
Ask people to add you to their contact list
It is the easiest way to avoid the spam folder, of course it is up to each user to decide whether to do so or not, so write your message as a suggestion rather than an obligation.
Remember to provide the option to unsubscribe
This is important when it comes to email marketing. If a user no longer wants to receive content, they have the right to unsubscribe. Remember to make this available to them in your emails.
Use spam detectors
Tools like mail tester either IsNotSpam can help you look at the efficiency of your email, you simply have to send an email to the address they provide and then review the results and make the relevant adjustments.
With these simple tips you will increase your chances of avoiding the dreaded spam folder, your reputation with IPS will increase and your emails will reach their intended recipients to be consumed.
